HOMETOWN PRIDE: GALT FESTIVAL 2006
Full Description:
47th annual Galt Festival June 29-July 2
Fireworks spectacular on final day
- The 47th annual Galt Festival will be held the four days of June 29 to July 2. What is now the Galt Festival was once known as the Sacramento County Fair. Years ago, after the county fair was moved to Sacramento, Galt decided to keep the fair tradition by holding its own festival.
The 2006 Galt Festival theme is focused on Home Town Pride. All planned events are centered on family and focused on community assets. Spectacular fireworks show and live music on Sunday night will be sponsored by the Galt Parks and Recreation Department.
Other attractions will include nightly entertainment, a huge carnival, street faire, food vendors, pitch-to-win bingo, horseshoe tournament, exhibit hall and, for the children, a chance to do hands-on gold panning and a chance to win a rabbit or pig during the age-old tradition of the Firecracker Pet Scramble on Sunday, July 2.
Youth may enjoy the watermelon eating and seed-spitting contest. The Sons of California will be sponsoring a motorcycle show on Saturday, July 1. Bring your bike for the show.
This year, the I Love Galt Youth Committee will coordinate the events at the Chabolla hall exhibit center as a reflection of our ties to the old Sacramento County Fair and the large agricultural area surrounding the city of Galt.
The youth committee is also assisting with the sponsorship drive for local business and/or individual contributions to assist with the cost of festival attractions. Twenty-five percent of all contributions collected will be given to the I Love Galt Youth Committee toward its scholarship and youth activities program.
A large variety of food items will be available in the food court. Other festival highlights include a grand Fourth of July parade on Sunday, July 2. The parade will start in Old Town Galt at Fourth and C streets at 1 p.m. The parade theme is Home Town Pride.
Surrounding partner communities of Acampo, Herald and Thornton are invited to join in the festival parade and other attractions, such as the exhibit hall and horseshoe tournament.
Sunday, July 2, is Multicultural Day to celebrate the diversity of the community. There will be a great variety of entertainment throughout the day for young and old. Festival hours are 5 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30, and 3 p.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday, July 1-2. The festival will be held on the west parking lot and on Chabolla Avenue between the Chabolla hall and the swimming pool.
